Our Purpose

Making Ourselves Matter Services Society (MOMSS) is predicated on a passion to answer the question: “If these were our daughters, what would we need to provide to ensure their health, well-being, personal success and independence?” Young women at risk are often missing crucial skills and life-experiences to move them out of the cycle of recidivism and dependence on emergency services. MOMSS shares a common vision and sense of collective responsibility with British Columbians towards lifting the ‘at-risk’ label off of each of these women. A report about supportive housing states that “to break the spiral, the solutions have to be as linked as the causes.”1 To break the spiral, the MOMSS project is linked to developing capacity in young women to mitigate the causes of homelessness by providing stable housing and self-sufficiency development opportunities for each young woman served.
