Residential Stage

During the first two years of our life skills apprenticeship, the residential stage provides a stable housing environment first, and then offers the complement of strength-based services and opportunities to build habits of resiliency, responsibility, and self-sufficiency. This is an effective tool to fuel a desire for a balanced healthy lifestyle while developing the skills needed to prevent recidivism and returning to their old debilitating cycles. These are skills and opportunities that may not otherwise be available to them individually or from their community. This life-changing rural housing experience provides a buffer between their new life ahead and the social determinants that led to their previous choices or circumstances.

During this stage, structured comprehensive life skills empowerment training, Making Ourselves Matter Services Society (MOMSS) will offer individualized support and programming, working with each resident to build goals based on her individual strengths and motivations. Our curriculum, a combination of classroom time and experiential learning opportunities, was created from marrying a successful parenting model fitting our clients’ age group to 22 effective goals and competencies characterized within a balanced healthy lifestyle. Proven therapeutic and healing practices are also interwoven into the program, recognized as valuable for building resiliency and realizing positive outcomes. A mentoring program and an independent living practice period will enhance the client success rate.

Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.
