Making Ourselves Matter Services Society (MOMSS) addresses the needs of at-risk young women, aged 19 to 29, who are transitioning to adulthood vulnerable to, or homeless. The age perimeter to enter this program has purposely been set to start at 19 to allow those coming from government care to be eligible.

Participants will be drawn from an at-risk population, without differentiation to their socioeconomic status, their nationality or their culture. During our screening process, each of the applicants will be evaluated to determine if they meet the criteria, goals, mission, values, and objectives as set out in MOMSS’ mandate. A multiple of assessment tools will be utilized to identify the successful applicants.

Applicants will be assessed to ensure they are genuine in their commitment to the full four years. They must also be:

  • Willing to live in an alcohol and illegal drug-free environment
  • Motivated and committed to change
  • Willing to participate in addressing and unravelling their negative cycles as a part of achieving a healthy, self-sufficient life style
  • Recognized already as willing to make the changes in her life that are necessary
  • Conducive to community living
  • Willing to participate in the program without the effects of mood-altering drugs
  • Open to rural living, away from urban influences, triggers, and conveniences
  • Willing to live away from family and friends
  • Able to provide confirmation of a detoxification period and/or the completion of a treatment recovery program (if applicable)
