Benefits of Residential Stage

Examples of benefits that clients will have within the opportunity of the Residential Stage, the first two years of the four-year life skills apprenticeship offered through Making Ourselves Matter Services Society (MOMSS):

  • It provides the first step of intervention towards supporting our clients with stable housing and an improved quality of life
  • It provides an alcohol and illegal drug-free environment, a welcomed option for those who are in recovery and committed to a lifestyle of abstinence
  • The rural setting provides an opportunity to escape from the influences and triggers which have had negative consequences in their lives
  • A centered approach is provided “meeting people where they are” by removing barriers to access and respecting individual readiness to change
  • It gives residents a complete break from their daily lives, influences, and addictive and/or negative behavior pattern
  • It gives residents a long period of supported abstinence from which to begin their new lifestyle
  • It cultivates an ideal climate to stabilize the resident’s situation, advancing the skills and personal growth needed to support self-reliance
  • It gives residents time to understand themselves and work through what causes their negative cycling
  • It is easier in a residential setting to break the pattern of complex rituals and behaviors that have been practiced previously
  • Recognizing the impact of larger social and economic factors, it responds to the unique needs, strengths, motivations and goals of each resident
  • It connects them to a wealth of new healthy social networks and supports that mitigate the risk of falling victim to negative influences
  • Women access services at a time when they are ready to receive what MOMSS can offer, ensuring success for completing the program
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
